This time of year when the days begin to grow longer and the sun actually starts to provide heat in it's rays, the garden begs for attention and my fishing tackle calls to me as I pass by, I find that the time that I spend with my coins will ebb for awhile.

Instead of daily visits that last a few hours, by mid-summer I will probably only pay my respects to them once a week. It is not that I have lost interest or can not afford new acquisitions, It is that I truly enjoy the outdoors and here in Idaho that window of opportunity is a limited amount of time. By the beginning of fall I will have had my fill and the flow will once again shift towards concentrating on what I call "My Therapy" or the careful pursuit of yet another beautiful coin to add to my forever growing collection.

This Ebb & Flow has gone on for years now and has become an indicator of how the seasons change for me, almost a symphony if you will. I was therefore wondering how other collectors habits also change throughout the year or if they even do.

There's quite a few including myself. My collecting interest doesn't go to zero but it does drop off considerably in summer only to peak again during winter.

Maybe this is some kind of calendar event like a "coin solstice"

I find that I am the other way. My interest seems to peak in the Summer. I love getting outside in the summer, but since the days are longer it seems like I have more time to do things. With winter the days seem so short up here in the Northeast, that I run out of day to do things.

I live in subtropical Brisbane, so coin collecting is a year-round thing. If anything, our outdoor activities are the opposite to most North American folks; being outdoors in the Australian summer is rarely pleasant.

For me, coin collecting is more of a monthly cycle. I'm the producer of a local coin club magazine, which comes out every month. In the week before it's mailed out, I'm normally so busy writing, editing, scanning, photocopying and collating that I don't have time to actually look at my coins or go to coin shops.

It is 6:38 AM here in Louisiana and the temperature is 71 degrees with a 72 percent humidity.....feels like 75 degrees.....it is already muggy and it will only get worse as summer approaches. Our weather doesn't get cooler again until late October...I miss cool weather....
