For some reason, my computer will no longer recognize my T6i nor will the EOS utility.
I've been messing with this for hours, uninstalled and reinstalled several times to no avail. I'm running windows 7 64 bit. The EOS utility version is 3.6.0. which installs version 2.0 and 3.0.
What's really PsMO is that if I hook up my old Rebel XS, version 2.0 fires right off like it should and then I can go into LiveView to work. Not the case with the T6i.
Also, I thought it might be a cable or port issue. Cable and port that won't work with the T6i does with the Rebel XS. Uninstalled the antivirus to see if that might be blocking it...nope.
Any advice to help me get my T6i back up and running in LiveView would be greatly appreciated. I'm almost to the point of sending in the camera to Canon for them to check out the USB cable port...maybe it went bad...who knows.
If worse comes to worse, will put images to the SD card and download/edit that way. But I really like the LiveView to get it just right before snapping it.
What a mess...

If you plug in the camera when "on", without starting EOS utility, does the OS recognize the camera at all? What about on the camera side...normally when you plug it into a computer, it will give a "busy" or some other indication that it knows it has been plugged in. Is there any indication either side that the camera has been plugged in to the computer?

Ray, With the T6I, nothing at all happens, either on the PC side or the camera side. With the camera off, I'll plug in the cable, turn on the camera, display on the camera comes on with the shooting specs, but never gets connected to the PC via the EOS pgm. With the Rebel XS, everything works correctly. I just don't get it....it was working a few days ago, then just quit. Damned frustrating.
EDIT: just loaded up the EOS program on my laptop and try to connect to the Canon t6i. Again nothing. Nothing on the camera display nothing on the screen showing if there is a tethering. I'm starting to think I have a camera Hardware problem. I put in a trouble ticket with Canon support. We'll see what they say in their response.

andy I just went through the same problem. here is what I was told to do by a canon rep. first delete all the canon programs. second remove the battery from my camera for no less than 10 minutes. start your canon software reinstall. after 10 minutes install the battery in your camera. tether to the computer complete the rest of the install. after I did this my camera worked great. I dont understand what removing the battery did but it worked. hope this helps you andy

Try another PC. Try another cable. One possible problem is damage to the USB connector on the camera. Another is a bad cable.
What did you change? It's not an irrelevant question - there's no support left for Win7, so it's not like random updates to the OS are conflicting with a driver.
Check the windows log - see if there are messages regarding the USB insertion when you power on the camera.
There are USB diagnostic tools, but I don't remember any names (I've never found one that I liked so I've never kept them around...).
Re Rocky - removing the battery allows the camera to completely run out of juice, so it's rebooting from the internal ROM (read only memory). If the internal program has been corrupted (cosmic ray, it CAN happen), this gets a new, clean copy.

ALCON....
I tried Rocky's steps and BStrauss3 steps and have had no success. Again, I don't believe it's a PC, cable or PC USB port problem as all my other USB devices work, regardless of what port is used, along with switching cables. The cable used with the T6i is the factory cable that came with the camera.
This morning, I again hooked up my Rebel XS and it worked fine. Windows sees it as a portable device in the Device Manager, EOS utility fires up and LiveView works, whereas the PC will not see the T6i, EOS utility will not work.
I got a response from Canon and, based on the symptoms, they seem to feel that it's the USB connector port on the camera itself. I'm going to start the repair process to get it sent in and see if that's actually the case. Regardless, the Rebel XS is the fallback camera I'll be using until I get the verdict.
Appreciate all the responses and advice.

Sorry for you. It does seem like you've eliminated everything except the camera connector. The problem is two fold - often these are only rated for a limited # of cycles (although that shouldn't be an issue in a camera, 10,000 is still a lot). The other problem is that they are so small, there's not a lot of mechanical strength in the solder joint of the shell to the board. I have a keyboard - in fact I'm typing on it now - where the connector lifted away from the board just enough to break one of the traces solely based on the tiny flex from typing - there didn't seem to be any room between the USB shell and the cabinet to move. I fixed it by soldering it back together and holding it down with a lump of Sugru. Fixed a $90 keyboard better than original. If you care to go down the rabbit hole, http://www.mouser.com/Connectors/US...udq8Z1ywwp82 shows the types of parts - bulkhead, surface mount, etc. if you look at the two Wurth parts, you see one ( 651005136521) has nice pins to solder THROUGH the board while the other (65100516121) has 4 tiny little legs to tack down - 0.95mm x 1.5mm.

andy I was reading your post again. I wonder andy where you have 2.0 and 3.0. see the older camera would work with the 2.0. but your new camera would want to connect to the 3.0. so question will your cable work with 3.0. this is just a thought andy.

Rocky.... the PC will not recognize the t6i at all no matter what cable I use or USB port I plug it into. Therefore neither version 2 or version 3 of eos utility will fire up when I plug in the t6i camera.
When I plug in the Rebel XS, version 2 pops up. In the past, version 3 would come up every time I plugged in the t6i. No longer does.
I've sent the camera to Canon to check out the USB port. I think it's dead.

Just a heads up, I had the same problem a week ago with my Canon EOS. Took it to bits and realised the port in the camera for taking the USB was slightly pushed in, and I couldn't get it to connect properly again. I sold the camera and bought a new one and only had to part with about £40.00 for a new one. I think that the USB connection in these cameras is actually quite delicate and gets pushed in easily if you arn't careful. Your problem might be entirely unrelated to this, but thought I'd give my story!

UPDATE: Just got my T6i back from Canon today. The technicians report stated that the main board had to be replaced, hence not being able to interface with the PC. Everything is back to normal (for now)
