Just got back from the local coin club auction, I bought a 3 pence set from 1901-1944 with all except the 1927. I think I paid to much, but hey I love the coins. By the way how much will the 27 cost me.

There were no 1927 sixpences struck for circulation, so the set of circulation coins is already complete. There were some NCLT threepences struck with this date: 15,000 proof coins (CV $50), and 1,690 Maundy coins (CV $25).

Since the set stops in 1944, I assume the set was only for silver threepences. From 1937, Britain also issued threepences in brass; these were larger, and dodecagonal (12-sided).

Of course the last silver threepence was in 1945, but is vanishingly rare as there were only 371,000 minted. Not only that, but most of them were melted down!
Which makes a VF worth about 4,000 GBP!
Hope you've got lots of dosh to complete the set :)
1942-44 were for colonial use only.
According to my book, there were 15,022 (proofs) of the 1927 threepence, worth about 70/90 GBP in UNC/BUNC now (though the prices are for the British market - as are the stern British grading standards).
