Hello members,

I just got back into collecting and I want to take some good quality photos. Can you point me to the best equipment for following conditions?

1. I only collect coins, all US type coins. No currency.
2. I have slabs, 2x2 mylar, & raw coins.
3. I want to take great pictures as I've seen in this forum.
4. Something under $250

Your recommendations & opinions are welcome.

Thanks...

The usual recommendation on this forum is the "$400 setup", which includes:

- used Canon DSLR that has live view
- extension tubes plus focus helicoid, or a bellows
- inexpensive, but good, enlarger lens
- various adapters, software,computer,etc.
- possibly a microscope objective, fine focus device, stacking software, etc.

Thers's a long thread on CCF thet describes all this.

I noticed you changed $500 to $250 while I was typing, so you might not be able to get the $400 setup. Some folks here take great pics with a smartphone.

Thank you for the info pepactonius. I already have Canon EOS camera with close up lens, so I can use them. I looked through Amazon and found USB 5MP camera. It's cheap and has great reviews. What do you think this USB camera compares to a Canon camera setup?

Oh, wow, "$400 setup" has many great ideas. This is wonderful!
BTW, I decreased $500 to $250 and removed about being computer savvy. I didn't want to sound too arrogant.

The photo you provided of the 5 MP USB scope appears to be a generic version of the Celestron Pro that some of us are using. Some modifications are required to get it to work, but once you put a longer adjusting rod on and get the lighting figured out, they are good at getting close up photos of features. For example, I have a photo of a 1887 IHC that looks like it has a rim Cud. Now I can post it and see if other members agree. There is a long USB microscope modification thread in this section that has a lot of good info.
