That indeed is an odd one. If just PMD, a smash would have destroyed any lettering in the channel, but something did push in the lettering, so it seems to have to be a strike thru, not a lam error...lam wouldn't have the imprint I wouldn't think?

With a peeled lamination you would usually see the imprint as well.

Thanks ya'll, I'm not sure which it is either. I'm not sure there's a way of knowing. I do agree it's darn nice.
Mark, I bought 85 rolls of Wheats from a deceased man's collection. He had only collected by date and mint. I'm really a nickel guy but cents are my next favorites.
Rest in Peace

I'm not sure which it is either but, yeah, it is a cool error. It appears to have circulated for quite some time before the "deceased man" scooped it out of circulation. To add to Mark's comment "How the heck did that one stay in circulation since 44'" I found the '44 Lincoln in the attached link in 1971-ish. http://goccf.com/t/241377&SearchTerms=1944

dave700x - That is a fantastic error coin- so it is considered Off Center because it is going in the same direction on both sides? Just want to make sure I do get confused still between the MAD and the Off Center.

MAD and the Off Center.

MAD - slightly off center ONE side. Off center strike equal on BOTH sides.

Is there any way to tell if my coin is a Lam or Struck Through?

coop has an exceptional explanation of how to tell and images on this post here - I just used it for reference when I found my 1999 LMC struck through a string/thread.

Just scroll down the page and you'll see it.

EDIT: You might want to PM John1 and Claude (CWB) and ask them to check out your post here. I'll bet they will be of considerable help.

Looking at the ghost images of the strike, it appears that that are is part of a lamination that peel off. It would be impossible for this to be a struck through with these present. If it were a struck through, the ghost images would be gone.
