Numismatics is riddled with examples of this phenomenon. IMHO, it speaks largely about general knowledge and overall popularity. I've been familiar with the 1856 FE Cent for sixty years now, but I'd not before seen this undated specimen. The less collectors who are in-the-know, the less competition there is .... This is one of the reasons I collect the unusual stuff, like counterstamps, CWT's and the like.
