Spot on andy. Lol she buys auction stuff and resells it out of a little store here in saskatchewan. An older lady in her 50's and knows less about coins than I do. I paid by money transfer 200 bucks per coin for a total of 4 coins. Ive already spoke to her and she is more than willing to give me my money back. So no worries there just wanted to be 100 percent sure they were fakes before I sent back.

This is the 1888. I only have the 1871 h in my possesion so far. I told her to hold of on the 1888 the 1894 and the 1870. Untill I get this counterfeit thing figured out.

The charlton caralouges say the mint used and repaired over 100 dies for these coins so I'm kinda clueless. Except what you guys have said so far. And ive referanced all five of my charlton books thus far.

I'm sorry to be blunt, but the coin looks grainy to me.

These are the easiest types of counterfeits to spot quickly.

There's no rocket science behind identifying these fake coins.

Especially now that you have a few 'in hand', it should make it even easier now when you compare one of these duds to a real half you hopefully have in your collection.

The surfaces should appear as different to you as a golf ball is to a billiard ball.
