While at the landfill yesterday, I made an interesting discovery. I was unloading the bed of my pickup when I saw a penny ( Lincoln Cent). I picked it up and immediately noticed how light it was. Turns out it was made of plastic, and dated 1991. What was interesting is that it looked perfect in every detail. It wasn't marked "copy" or "replica." I suppose it was part of a game of some sort. Sign of things to come?

Pics would be very interesting, especially if this "penny" closely matches the actual specs. It's cool to wonder whether the mint ever considered this route--but my first guess is also a novelty piece.

G'day, every few weeks my sons (5 & 4 y.o.) come home from school with toy coins: size is perfect; colour a bit off; far too light; and the design is tolerably well executed. I was impressed. I discovevered a source for these items recently: $2 gets a generous packet of toy coins & notes. I suspect that all you're looking at is a toy, rather than a secret experiment from the Mint. Gary.........Believe me !.....on this entire beautiful planet of ours..... IF I CAN LEARN...YOU CAN LEARN!Metalman actually helped me figure it out........posting pics is a "daunting" adventure until you've done it successfully a few times.........then there's nothing to it ! The plastic penny......I had "joked around" in a previous thread about the chances the Mint might "go plastic" with our coins to be "cheaper"......"go green"....."recycle"........but I didn't think there was any reality to this !I'm sure it wasn't the Mint who made this........but somebody sure did!...ha ha Oh ! I know.......IT'S THE CHINESE COUNTERFEITING OPERATORS !....WHAT YOU HAVE IS A TEST OR "DUMMY COIN" !! Ha Ha LoL....

Again, an apology for not being able to post pictures. All three of our children are great with computers. I'll get one of them to help me. Also, Triggersmob has sent me instructions.
So, except for laziness, I guess I have no excuse.

Yep their toys. My kids would buy them at the local dollar store.
Usually it was part of a whole coin & dollar set that they would use to replace the original play money that they lost from their toy cash register. Eventually, I'd find the lost ones when the vacuum cleaner made funny noises.

It's a good thing that says COPY--otherwise somebody might get into trouble with that.
