Here are images of the original 1927 sketches that current designers/engravers at the RCM used to create the new "Lost Designs" coin set. (The images presented were scanned from the book Striking Impressions which was published by the RCM back in 1984 (First Edition).) The RCM launched a redesign contest for its circulating coinage in May 1927. The contest included the one cent, five cents, ten cents and 25 cents denominations. The 50-cent coin was not included; Canada did not yet have a dollar coin in circulation. Each of the sketches shown below was submitted to the RCM as part of the contest and each was selected as the winner for its given denomination. None of the submissions for the 10-cent denomination were deemed worthy of being selected. Each winning artist received $500 for his efforts. None of the designs made it to the die stage, however, so no test or pattern coins were ever struck - until the current "Tribute Set." 1927 One Cent: Gustav Hahn 1927 Five Cents: J.A.H. MacDonald 1927 Twenty-Five Cents: J.A.H. MacDonald

@commems
Thank you so much for the information on these coins. I cannot believe that none of these designs ever made it into circulation. I am very excited to have this set in hand:)))))

Looking forward to receiving my set soon and surprised it hasn't sold out yet.
Yes, a little pricey but still cheaper than some of the other 1 ounce silver coins being marketed.

Quote: I really like the look of this set. I ordered and cannot wait to see them. Excellent designs. Congrats for ordering. just ignore stupid bulky basic maroon case I like the designs as well, the 1 cent looks , imo, specially "neat". Interesting point: Now we getting them as the 38mm 1oz silver coins, but design looks like bit busy for example for 5c coin....

@Silveroid Thank you very much for the chuckle. I know that I go on and on about boring maroon clamshells with black sleeves. LOL LOL LOL I keep posting my disdain about these black sleeves in every single post in hope that someone from the RCM reads one of my comments about the packaging. Some of you probably do many eye rolls when I go on and on and on about the boring black sleeves with those boring maroon clamshells!! LOL LOL

Quote: surprised it hasn't sold out yet. Not surprised at all given its mintage of 5500. Too high.

Did not go that quickly considering it took 3 weeks to sell out. Also still available at Canada Post and other coin dealers.

After I understood, that I do not really need it, I was able to sell my " RCM 3-coin Proof Royal Baby set" for 60% of issue. ...after it has been sold out by RCM.

Funny thing....the 2013 gold superman coin never sold out at RCM. It was archived. AND, today it has almost tripled in value. So, coin collecting like life is "like a box of chocolates according to Forrest Gump!"! You just never know what you are going to get. I just received this set and it is absolutely exquisite and I cannot believe that none of these coins ever made it into circulation!! Stunnnnnnnnnning!!

Received mine today as well. Very impressed! Don't mind the bulky case since the insert comes out for display. Certificate # was ridiculously high 3375/5500 and disappointing. Were MC members not entitled access to low numbers? More broken promises.

@Proof Nut Low certificate numbers are only advertised on certain issues of coins for MC. I, too, am disappointed with the numbered COA's I receive for most of my coins from RCM and I am platinum prestige. I get better from dealers that I do not spend as much. Such a shame. At least this set is beautiful. I also want to add that I saw a video of coins being produced by the mint and they came out in a bin. I believe that they just pick up a coin and stick a certificate in it.
