I acquired an Anacs "First Strike" MS69 2008 silver eagle from the "Coin collector" show (I know, I know ... but it was to maintain an Anacs silver eagle set, and this is the only coin I've bought from a TV show in a year).

Anyway, the slab has a gray label and NO serial number. I haven't asked the folks at Anacs about this yet, but why would they not number these slabs? I've seen bulk silver eagle batches from NGC on other shows, and they still have the NGC serial numbers. Won't the absence of a serial number raise some questions, down the line?

I think all slabs should have a serial number, I don't understand why they would want to make it easier to counterfeit their slabs

I just talked to ANACS and they said those coins are mass processing of modern coins and so are genuine ANACS slabs without a serial number. If you wanted it I guess you can enjoy your LIMITED EDITION coin. I apologize, I'm just disgusted with those rip-off artists on TV.
Enjoy your collection.

Sorry Conder. I've tried to attach a photo of the slab in question, but either the coincommunity site has a problem or I'm just not savvy enough to manage the feat ... probably the latter.
