So, I've posted three very nice looking coins graded by PCGS. You can see the trend in the grade progression, but it's seemingly small. In addition, I'm certain I've seen coins with the same grade ... from PCGS ... that didn't hold up to these.

The 1896 (coin #2) that graded MS-65 is a nice coin, but it does have some very small imperfections on the obverse and the fields also have some roughness that may have been the result of worn dies (or less than perfectly polished). Anyway, it's a very strong 65.

Also, the 1896 (coin #1) that graded MS-67 has a really clean obverse, but some scuffs in the field of the reverse (to the left of the eagle). I wonder if that held it back from grading higher. Though there are some light scuffs/scratches in the field of the obverse (left of nose), and those too also held it back.

The 1887 that graded MS-66 is also a strong coin. I'm certain I have PCGS MS-67 coins that have more imperfections on them.

Overall, I thought these three coins demonstrated how very small differences can separate the grades. Also, that the subjective portion of grading is hard to get you head around.

Thanks for all the input. When I have more time... I'll see if I can post so others.
