Hello, can someone please tell me what would make a penny so RED? Found this in a roll of pennies and at first I thought someone used a marker on it, but after taking a close look this is clearly not the case. I would love to hear other opinions please.
Thank you

It has been colored/coated, them put into circulation. You can clearly see how the coloring has started to wear off of Lincoln's coat, head and other high points of the coin.

A red Sharpie/highliner would be my guess.
