Here is an old one. I have found coins similar but not exact. Pretty sure it's from the 1500s. 24mm at the widest point. Anyone recognize it?
Thanks

Yes, it does look French. This type would be made from 1692 to 1705, with the date being located at the top left of the last picture; however, I cannot read the last digit (169-something). It appears that the letter in the middle is an A, which seems to eliminate that last digit being a 4, 7, or 8.

I an not sure what the difference between the coins in these two links are (or which yours is), but here are two links:

The date looks like 1697 to me (at least, if it's where you say it is).
EDIT: no, I'm pretty sure the last digit is a 7, sorry. And if it's not a 7 it's a 4, but 7 is more likely. (Could be 1 too, but that doesn't fit the type, assuming you guessed correctly.)

I think I'm seeing some details that don't belong though... was it overstruck?

Joseph, it's not the secon8 you gave (37829). More like the first (19922) and I'd say it was 1697 looking closer at the number with a loop. Thanks for the help, you guys are great.
