I have this 1878 8 Tail Feather Morgan silver dollar that has what I suppose is tape residue on the obverse. In hand, it is a coin with a ton of eye appeal, my pictures don't do it justice at all. I was thinking of sending it in to NGC (would be my first submission, been waiting till I have multiple coins that I wanted graded) Anyway, is this the type of thing they could remove? Do you think it would be worth it? What would you grade it at? Thanks in advance.

If you think it is tape residue try a pure acetone soak first - much cheaper than sending it to NGC to do it. If it doesn't work then no harm and you can send it off to NGC for their consideration. If it is something they can't do anything with then they will send you back the coin untouched.

If it's one of the rare vams I'd say yes. If not I'd say just sell it and buy a better one.

Acetone would be my first try. If there is a lot of tarnish under it then I'd consider an ez est dip. If those don't appeal then maybe NGC conservation, they do good work
Rest in Peace

I would try pure acetone to remove the tape residue first and post better pictures for more accurate opinions.

Sorry for the bad pics. I have never tried using acetone before, but maybe I'll give it a try.
