Found this in a roll it is a 1986 LMC and it has two die cracks on the reverse one starts at the rim and goes through the ONE the other is the odd on it starts at the upper serif of the c in cents and runs through the E and then stops with a die chip there is a die scratch that runs to the rim and looks like the continuation of the crack but it's only a die scratch. This is a retained die crack , am I correct?

Definite die crack in ONE, but I'm less sure about the one in CENT. It could be a die abrasion scratch post die clash, since there are others in the area as well. There's also a little scratch coming off the left side of the C in CENT. (I might be imagining die clash marks in the ninth memorial bay. That might be where Lincoln's chin and lips leave marks.)

I believe this is just a die crack. I've only heard of Retained Cuds, and that's when a die crack spans from one rim to the other. That's a predecessor to a Cud, which is when the affected area breaks off, and a blob is minted there instead of the design.

Druu I forgot about the one on the back of the c and here is a closer pic of the one between c and e I can see your point that it may be a large die scratch but there is a chip on the e which is unrelated to the scratch and the third pic is the mark on the top left of the c I think it is a hit from something sharp ( PMD) and what looks like a die clash is just gunk on the coin.

On a Die Break from rim to rim, if the broken part of the die is still with the die it's retained. On the coin the design still shows. It's called a Retained Die Break. If the rim to rim break falls off the die, it is no longer retained and the design does not show on the coin. At that point, it's a blob of metal called a Cud. Your coin seems to have a series of die cracks and a lot of abrasion scratches, I think from polishing.

I would say this die didn't last much longer. Somewhere someone has a penny with a nice Cud from this die . Thanks for all the replies and info.
