Mods, posting this to the Canadian section as it is Canadian exonumia, but feel free to move to the exonumia section if need be...

Recently, I have been breaking down a fairly large collection of Canadian Masonic exonumia, and have found many interesting pieces belonging to many interesting people, but this one may take the cake...

This is the piece I was doing some cursory research on...

Turns out the former owner of this piece is one of Canada's great military heroes of Victorian era...

Harold Lothrop Borden (H.L.) was the only son of Canada's defense minister, Sir Frederick William Borden. Mr. Borden served with distinction as a lieutenant in Second Boer War in South Africa, and was killed while leading a charge in the Battle of Wiltpoort. Mr. Borden's legacy has been honored at numerous locations, including the Harold Borden Monument in his home town of Canning, Nova Scotia.

Below are some photos of Mr. Borden as well as his monument...

Cool piece and great history! The military base named after his father Sir Frederick William Borden is still active and running in southern Ontario as far as I know. C.F.B Borden.

SelectCoinCanada: C.F.B. Borden is indeed alive and kicking; it's currently one of the largest military bases in Canada. It's quite fascinating to take a trip through if you ever get the chance.
