Hey guys-
I'm very new to collecting (coins and notes) in general. I sort of fell into it when I was left a decent sized coin collection by an uncle of mine who died.

I really like the coins themselves. I love the weight and the fact that most of them contain 'real' valuable metal.

I had a friend who strictly collected paper currency. I always remember thinking 'who would pay 100 dollars for a piece of paper worth only 5?'

But now I understand it all. There's is so much history and Americana contained in the artwork of our paper currency.

Yesterday I purchased my fist gold certificate note, and added that to a small collection of 2 dollar bills, silver certificates and one confederate note.

Though I can't say I'm happy that my uncle died, I am happy that he had the foresight to know that collecting various forms of currency is something I would love doing.

So with that, I ask.
What do your note collections contain?
Like I said I have a very small collection of silver and gold certificates and a couple odds and ends.

Thanks for all the great info this forum has given me so far!

I have a good sized currency collection. I first started collecting coins, but after a while I became more interested in currency. The artwork and vignettes that you can find on many of the notes is amazing. I just like the variety that you can get in currency. There is just so many different notes out there.

Lately I've been buying lots of obsoletes and confederates. I just love the artwork and vignetttes on them.

Large notes is what made me inquire and interest to paper currency. I love to collect the ones I can afford. Large notes led to silver certificates and then to gold certificates and so on...

Here are the notes I keep here at the house, I have a few confederate notes my grandfather gave me but they are in the safe deposit box (not because they are valuable just because they were his and I don't want anything to happen to them) http://www.coincommunity.org/galler...hp?album=743

Sorry about your Uncle....
I'm getting more and more interested in "notes"......I've always had an up and down interest in coins......recent years though, it's never gone "down", so I think it's here to stay now for the rest of my life !
Congrats on the "gold certificate note" !...WOW !.....could you post some pics of that one up here ?
My notes consist of different kinds of "Silver Certificates" of various dates basically and some that are just regular but old ones.....one Large note in "horrible condition". One recently acquired "stamped" first day issue $2.00 bill .......(thanks Prethen..)
I think I've got 4 of the small rectangle currency albums about 80% full......so I'm "ending up" with more and more of these "notes" as time goes by!....they're certainly cool and I like em' !..

I also started with coins and had the same thoughts as you, until I bought my first large size note and now I'm hooked. I collect Large Size, Colonials (specifically from Pennsylvania), my set of Fractionals is three quarters of the way done and I also pick up any obsoletes that I can that have vingettes of cherubs on them.
