AU53 with average eye appeal. The scratches on Miss Liberty and through the date are unfortunate. The area to the right of Miss Liberty's head looks played with too. Overall though it is an okay piece if the price is right. It looks as original as you usually will find Seated dollars that is to say not completely but not washed up either.

AU53 but it has a good shot at 55. there are some marks behind the head that are troublesome. its an odd place to have scratches like that without the surrounding area being affected

This coin is graded PCGS 58+ and is in an upcoming Heritage sale. IMO inhand inspection would definitely be warranted if you were going to bid on the coin as the grade seems a little generous from the photos. I can see a 58 but not a 58+. If it was really that solid it should have a green bean. .

My apologies MikeF. You are right I should have let the post run. I do agree with the other posters concerning the distractions on the coin. The eye appeal appears average to me from the photos.

Sharpness looks AU58. I don't see a lot of wear. For circulated coins wear trumps marks, unlike unc coins.
I only see luster in the periphery of the coin which is why I would judge it as a mid-grade AU. Leaning more toward 53 than 55. I wouldn't pay 58 money for this coin. Grades make a substantial $ jump at this level.

Below average luster for the grade, excessive distracting marks, slightly weak obverse strike and lots of carbon spots especially on the reverse; I would not go higher than AU53 money under any circumstances as it may result in a difficult sale later, although AU55 might push it. The grade of AU58 is absurd, this is not a choice AU coin by any standards.

The toning looks like the coin may have been cleaned at some point. Nice coin but the eye appeal just isn't there.
