Can some of you experienced silver coin collectors offer your opinions on the toning on this coin? It is offered as an AU53 in a PCI slab which I think is fairly graded. My question is this - how badly does this toning affect it's value when compared to a bright coin.

Last year I took a bath on a classic 50c US major TPG slabbed coin with strong original toning. I don't wish to be stupid again. Jeff

Correction, it is a MS60 graded coin. I shouldn't look at two coins at the same time. :(

My opinion Jeff, toning is subjective. Some absolutely go gaga over it and pay premiums for that "special" toning, radial rainbow per se. I hate it. To me it is a sign of poor storage or handling. I'm not in the camp ofr having to have "shiny,all-white" coins either. Just grade them respectively, if dirty...details, if worn and dull, surely not a MS grade like some TPG's but an appropriate figure. IMHO!

BTW: I wouldn't grade that Peso as MS, the dark high points that tarnished indicate wear, AU-55 TOPS!

Thank you Crazy, I can agree with you. I am impressed that the coin has no tell-gale polishing hairlines. But your comment about the darkness of spots indicating wear certainly gives me a negotiating point. I will take an AU with natural toning over an uncirc buffed coin any day. But, that's just me.
