Hello,

Has anyone any details of this commemorative medal? There is a lot of information on the medal itself but I was more interested in the provenance of it. I can easily trace the hallmarks, weigh it, measure it, etc. but I really would like to know it's original retail price, if it was issued for any other special reason apart from the millennium and for whom/which company (if any) it was made for. I phoned the Tower Mint and nearly spoke with Mr. Maklouf but I shied away being somewhat timid (he was out of office for a bit). I spoke to his coworker but she could not trace the details of it, although she recognised it as an item from them. The Tower Mint is a private mint and their website has little information and it is rarely updated. This is strange as they produce a lot of items.

Is this a USA site? I did a search for UK forums but this came up ,

Thanks for any info

The Tower Mint is, like a lot of similar companies, a seller of "collectables". Or to put it another way, highly overpriced pieces sold to people who have little interest or knowledge of numismatics.
The resale value of these pieces is often not much more than melt price even though Maklouf is a fantastic designer and sculptor of coins.

Original sale price might be found by looking through the 1999/2000 archives of the Sunday Times and Mail On Sunday which were frequent trawling grounds for these type of companies.
