We'll need weight, or something that makes you think it's copper. Though very few can discern whether or not it's copper by simply appearance I personally don't think this looks like copper,

This was the first year of the mostly zinc coins with copper plating, but there are known examples with the earlier 95% copper composition. Agree that careful weight analysis is critical.

If it is copper it would about 3.11 grms and zinc would weight in at about 2.50 grms

Good luck! If it is a copper cent then I think it would be only the 2nd known. You would need to get it professionally attributed.

Weight and front and back pics please. I can see why you think it's not a zincoln, very even look to the finish,no bumps or wavy appearance.

Looks promising as it appears ,but the accurate weight would determine if it is Copper or not.

I like to test my 1982 and 1983 pennies by flipping them with my thumbnail. If they let out a loud "ding" they're copper, but if they just thud they're zinc. I'm pretty sure you don't damage the coin by doing that.

No this is the first full year of copper plated zinc cents. 1982 was the year they made both types. But there ARE a few known 1983's struck on the older copper planchet. Easiest way to tell is weight, and that is definitive.
