My hunch is this is just MD but I thought I would get another opinion before I tossed it in the copper jar. There are a lot of RPMs for this year that have no pictures.

1968-D-LMC-MD-Or-RPM?

What do you think?

Thanks...Mont.

Okay, first let me say, I don't know. =) Second, I see why it caught your attention. Just speculating, but I don't think this would be MD since it's not affecting the date. I can't quite make out if there is a little bit of split serif showing next to that verdigris crystal on the top left of the D. My intuition is saying no, this isn't an RPM, but I unfortunately can't tell you exactly why other than it seems strange that a little D would be punched deeper over a large D. And it doesn't look like damage from a hit, either. Hmm.

It looks like a Machine Doubling not a RPM with the same effect with devices on date.

This is MDing , the top of the 6 showes it as well. Were this a rpm with the top horizontal bar stepped in this manner, it would have exhibited a split upper serif

It maybe a contact mark that started on the '6' and then hit the top of the mint mark. I don't see any other areas of the date affected like this.
