What does the edge look like? Is the reeding clear or is it also worn like some of the coin?

The "wear" looks uneven and I was thinking a Dryer Coin. Although, it could be a grease mess partially filling the die on certain areas of both sides.

I don't see the surface speckling usually seen on Dryer Coins. I think it could be some sort of striking issue in addition to being Struck Through Grease. I see this especially on the last word of EPU where the lettering appears enlarged because the deepest recesses of the die there were full of grease.

Not a Dryer Coin. Very common that year. Use the search box upper left of page for lots of info.

I find it odd for it to have the unformed rimms of a weakly struck coin at8:30 and 3:30 but formed rims at 10 and 5. What does the coin weight
Rest in Peace

Loose die making a faulty hit...worn too. Probably made a racket until it got tightened up! The longer it was used loose, the better for the error collectors!

It is commonly found on that year on the dimes because of a weaker strike issue. But on taking a second look the LIBERTY is showing some evidence of a Struck Through Grease issue. So the dime may have been wiped with a cloth and partially filled some areas of the devices. (note on the 'LIB' the varying width of the devices? because of a partial filled die, those devices are wider because the deeper part of the die had grease there and prevented the strike on those areas and other on the coin)

The movement of grease can block/angle devices or alter during the strike when the die has grease in certain areas of the die.
