Would like to buy a set of scales for checking coin weights when needed but have been overwhelmed at the choice, and price, range offered on sites such as ebay!

Does anyone have a preference in regards to value for money that will do the job, as it will probably not be used that often?

0.1 is ok,but 0.01 is better and 0.001 is the way to go. Of course the more zeros in the readout means more zeros in the price.

I'm also looking for some! I have some at the moment that only got to 0.1 0.2 etc, so can't tell if its closer to 0.2 or 0.1.
I've just found these, and they are so very cheap. Can anyone advise if they will be decent / accurate?

Where I live you can pick up a pocket scale at just about every smoke shop or convenience store for $20 or less. Personally I've owned a couple but got fed up with batteries and decided to splurge on a model that had an AC adapter.

I purchased the following model from Amazon for approx $50CDN, it goes to .01 of a gram and is still compact enough to travel with me.

One more thing to consider is the maximum weight capacity, a lot of the pocket scales are 100grams which is adequate for most but not for others. So if you're weighing something like scrap silverware, I would suggest at least 500gram capacity.

Most of the generic Chinese scales are ok. Buy em off ebay, smoke shop, coin show, wherever. You need to calibrate them per the ibstructions and use high quality FRESH batteries.

If you want to spend a few $ more and buy from a real business: http://www.oldwillknottscales.com/ - highly recommended.

NTEP approval should provide the tolerances you want by their testing.
