I have 3 coins I want to get into PCGS or NGC holders.

1) 1949-S dime graded MS66 in old fatty NGC holder. Rainbow toned. I believe this is FT but they didn't recognize that distinction when it was slabbed.

2) 1921 Peace dollar graded MS62 in a yellow Anacs holder. Superior strike. Just want to get it in a more reputable holder. See link below for pictures.

3) 1921 Peace dollar graded "genuine cleaned" in a PCGS holder. Superior strike. I posted this one here and the consensus was that it would straight grade if resubmitted. Probably a 62 or 63 grade. I think the grader was in a bad mood because if has been dipped so they details graded it. See link below for pictures.

What is the most cost efficient way to get these graded? Do I need to wait until I have more than 3 to send in to be worth it?

Thanks!

PCGS you need a paid membership or give it to a dealer you trust to send it in for you

NGC no paid membership as long as you have an ANA membership

NGC is on a high horse right now trying to defame PCGS and saying they're the better graders.....it's all about $. PCGS is still the top trader imo. Prices are gonna run about the same. Figure in average $20 per coin or more, then take into account postage, insurance, return shipping and insurance. Your looking at minimum $100 for 3 coins alone. My 10 Morgan's cost me over $240 when sending it today everything inclusive

I have stopped using them cause they were undergading my pieces by 1 to 2 points when they would grade better at PCGS. I use my buddies PCGS membership and actually sent out 10 Morgan's to PCGS this afternoon. Til NGC gets its act together they won't be getting any more money from me.

If it were me here's what I'd do:

Coin 1: I'd leave it in the holder, ship it to NGC and request the FT attribution.
IF they see it as FT then it would have to be reholdered also.
Cost: With S&H up around $70. More if you have to join NGC.

Coin 2: Take you choice, PCGS or NGC.
Leave it in the ANACS holder and specify MS-62 or higher.
If they don't agree they'll send it back "as is"; then at least it will still be holdered.

Coin 3: Crack it out first then ship to either PCGS or NGC.
If either see it in a Genuine holder you probably won't get it graded as original.

Do your math and determine if the cost merits all this treatment.
