*** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***This was in a recent collection purchase. 1969 pl mint set with a silver proof dime still sealed in original package and authenticity card. The coins are all flawless. I'm very happy to have this. It's my first mint set.someone took very good care of this and now it's my turn.

Nice looking set. Is it an error silver dime? I ask because they stopped issuing any silver in proof like sets beginning in 1968.
I like the proof like set, afordble way to collect and they're generally supperb

Thanks Alan, Do you mean a packaging error or a coin error? The dime is a small date. I haven't found any errors on the actual coin but it's the only coin in the set that is non magnetic.

The 1968 PL sets were all nickel, there were no silver dimes or quarters in these, as far as I am aware there were no silver dimes or quarters produced in any set until the 90's (I might be wrong)

Coins and Canada lists a 1969 small date silver proof dime . This dime is non magnetic and is the only coin in the set that is non magnetic. I also have two more sp dimes from the 60s and a sp quarter that is 1965 all non magnetic.

Interesting... it is not magnetic, but it does not have that bright silver colour... can you post better photos of the 10c in that set?

Where does coinsandcanada list a 1969 silver proof dime as there were no proofs or silver dimes at the time?
As for other specimen dimes being non magnetic and a specimen 1965 quarter being non magnetic they should be as they are silver as there are only a few dates in the 60s with specimen strike that I know of (1964, 1965, 1967 1969). 1969 is the only of those 60s dates with specimen strikes that should not be silver.
I would agree with SPP the colour does not look like it's silver at all but if that dime is non magnetic you definitely have something very special there.

Wow I will check all of the coins that are nonmagnetic when I get home this evening and post pics of all. Is this not the designation for silver proof ? I am totally new with Canadian coins so is this actually the designation for specimen?

Yes that is designation for a specimen coin. The big thing would be is that dime should be magnetic as it should be made of nickel. If it is non magnetic you have some sort of error there which would definitely be worth some good money.

if its non magnetic its an off metal error, most likely cupro-nickel.

I'm a little embarrassed to tell you that I had the 69 dime and the 65 dime mixed up in my head I checked the pl set and the dime is mildly magnetic however the 65 dime and quarter I have are not. Again my apologies. I have been a little overwhelmed going through this collection purchase. This is my first canadian coin collection.I bought this from a guy that found it in a house being torn down and he picked it up and took it home. It looks like the collector was actively collecting to about the mid 80s and several coins are in 2x2s and not labeled why they are separated from others that are in folders so I have been going over them trying to figure out what the reason is. I got my wires crossed on a nickel last night lol. Again my apologies for taking up your time.
