First and foremost, sorry for the bad pics. You can't get good pics with an iPad in the first place, but zooming them makes them worse. I found this penny with a filled D mintmark.

The filled MM's are pretty common. It seems they get flattened from circulation but sometimes it is filled with a die chip.

Kinda looks like filled from circulation as the other date digits are kinda flat.

Actually they are filled by the post breaking off of the die. The post would form the center of the mint mark. But with it broken off the die, it now shows that mint mark to look filled in.

This applies to other devices as letters/numbers also. The void on the die is filled in with metal on the coin.
