Recently picked up a $2 bep wrap with a nice radar and bookend (see my first user post), so I went to my other bank to see if they had any more. All they had was a $5 wrap of sequential unc notes... but they didn't have any "fancy serial numbers" in the set...

Are they worth picking up for any reason? Or should I try to stick with unc fancy notes? (I was able to quickly scan them for star notes etc before I initially declined to buy them).

Do you guys order/request wraps from the bank in hopes of trying to find fancy serial numbers? I'm debating on doing this with my bank on $2000 of $2 bills now... just to try it out... do they typically come circulated or unc when you do this?

Thanks.
Rest in Peace

Fireball, most banks will allow you to purchase as much in quantity you can afford, but will reserve the right to not take them in from you...@$2000 level. You'll have to pay bills with them!

If you're learning about fancy numbers, most "experts" can see by leading bill if anything worthwhile to be had. Stars, sequencing, etc. Generally new wraps are current printings, every once in a while an older stack is put out, ya right, ain't THAT lucky!

Is there any way to know which bills are star bills for the newer stuff? That information isn't posted anywhere is it? Or is it all random until found?

Is it worth "wrap searching" circulated wraps for fancy serial numbers? I do see that commonly on Youtube, but I wouldn't expect a fancy serial number to fetch much premium in a worn state...

I'm just a common guy, randomly collecting (for now) who's interest was piqued with an inadvertent find.

Lot of questions, and that's not a bad thing.
There are people who strap hunt. There are plenty of about Uncirculated bulls in straps, and some SN that will fetch a premium even in circulated condition.
The upside of strap hunting over coin rolls is the dump. Star notes are random in the sense that you cannot predict where they will show up. I THINK that of you are getting fresh straps, they will be all stars or all not, but that is just based on my experience.

I appreciate the info on new * straps, I did not know that it was that way... but it does make sense.

I just wonder about getting heavily circulated condition straps, because just like coins, condition is everything...

In the case of the $5 wrap I found at my bank, it was uncirculated... and sequential... but no fancy numbers to be had... I just didn't know if there was any premium for things like this... or just the fancy serial numbers...
