How much does a 1948 Silver Dollar AU55 go for at coin shows, stores, and auctions? I am not talking about Charlton catalog value.

There is an upcoming auction for one and I don't want to overpay.

Thanks!

Assuming it is certified, pretty much full CCN trends, which is $1,650. If it's an auction with juice and then sales tax on top, it will likely be more like $1,700-$1,900 all in.

With respect, if you're going to spend that kind of money at auction, then I think you're not very well prepared.

Not too many sold AU55 ones on ebay. Only found one for $1595.

Asking prices on ebay are very high. At these prices might as well aim for a MS60.

My advice if you like the 48 dollar, go to a large show spend around 2200.00 you will find a really nice MS 63 but remember there are really good graded 63 and crappy graded 63. good luck !

There is a large show at the beginning of June in T.O. .. one of the best(Coin Expo). See if a friend can look around for you there. I would guess that there would be 5-6 to see there.

they are always over priced on ebay, as a seller has at least a 10% loss to fees, so figure that into the offer you make..

@TheCoinHunter

Thanks for the link to average ebay sold prices of the 1948 Silver Dollar.

It is interesting there is little spread between AU55 and MS60. For a little more you can get a MS60.

AU 55(9) - $1640
AU 58(3) - $1690
MS 60(9) - $1775

Probably, but what can you do if your Silver Dollar collection is missing the year 1948? You have to fill in the hole.

There are only 18,780 of them and there must be more silver dollar collectors worldwide than that.

I suppose its a matter of supply of demand. The demand for it is propping up the price.
