In one of 30 or so cigar boxes in my grandparent's collection, there's about 100 or so 2x2 coins that appear to be damaged, clipped in some form, or error coins. This one in particular is a real odd ball. Sorry I'm still not that good with pictures, and I turned the coin in a way to make the date stand out as best as possible. Could this really be a 1906 dated Wheat penny?

Thanks for any feedback, NHcoinster

Sure, I can try... My grandparent's collection haven't seen fingers since 1986 at the latest, but this one is intriguing enough that I'll break it out. Gimme a few.

Wow, I think these new images are quite revealing, tho I'm not sure you can tell from my pics. It looks like the coin is actually a 1926, but there's a circle of some type over the 2, making it look like a 0. I just dunno.

I have to agree with Crazyb0. looks like the center of the 3 is in the center of the circle.

Thanks to all for "sleuthing" this one out!! Can anyone take a stab at origin of the overlayed circle? Since this coin was mixed with an assortment of other oddball error coins, and further since it uncharacteristically had nothing written on the 2x2, I'm assuming it was my grandparent's way of isolating it as some bad forgery attempt. Certainly we'll never know, but you all have some great ideas with this "stuff".

Thanks, NHcoinster
Rest in Peace

You can tell by the photo that something out of the realm of normal happened to that date . I'm going with a 3 also.

I am with Fuzzy on this, 1926, unless we can get another better focused close up shot of the date,it looks like a Greaser weak 2 !

with Crazub0,after playing around with the pic.the lower loop in the 3 becomes evident! 1936.that's my opinion for now untill we get a clear close up of the date!
