Here's an '84. Looks so much better in person (many different colors). Any hints for getting the camera to properly capture the toning of these coins would be much appreciated.

Hey vccoin, I'm in the beginning stages of learning to photograph coins, and so far I think lighting is the biggest component in capturing "true to life" pictures. If my experience is typical, I would say it takes a lot of practice in getting good lighting. Still, this won't eliminate the need to adjust pictures in post.
Unless I'm seeing it wrong, you used one light for this picture? You might need more than one to highlight different ways the toning catches light from different angles (others will undoubtedly be more familiar with this than me, though). If you haven't tried indirect lighting, it might be worth a shot, too.
