The obverse rim area looks almost normal to the west but as it goes around to the east it starts to invert so that the field is actually higher than what's outside of it and starts to cut off some of the devices.

The reverse rim area is also flattened with only a hint of a rim left. I would say it was wear if it weren't for what's going on with the obverse.

I think it was put into a jewelry piece, what do you think?

Edit: Your pictures are great and it looks really cool in that angle shot you did.(2nd pic from the top)

Looks like it was as mentioned used for jewelry of a former encasement coin. The rim area get flattened when they pare pressed into the holder. But once removed, they are just a damaged coin. You what to put it back into a bezel if that year is special to you. (I agree the 2nd & 3rd images are very nice.

Thank you for the replies and compliments.

@CoinCents

When you asked what I thought, I was trying to figure out how that could have happened at the mint and couldn't come up with anything. So, I started thinking about PMD.

I compared the arc-shaped indentation in the bottom lapel area to the east side and they look the same width from the rim and got to thinking of some sort of punch or collar (bezel) that was a little off-center and applied uneven pressure making the field look higher to the east.

The jewelry piece may have covered the entire reverse explaining why there is no sharp line, just a smoothly flattened rim and flattening extending into the upper wheat stalks

Looking at the edge, it has a resemblance to a partial collar error (or railroad rim) but not quite. It looks more like metal flowing outward from the rim in a rounded/uneven way that looks like it was squeezed post-mint.

@coop

Unfortunately, whatever bezel it was in is long gone and I have only the loose coin.

What? It took a few minutes for my brain to figure out that process. You come up with the most unique ways of PMD

A pipe was definitely one of my thoughts (pipe end on obverse, reverse on a hard flat surface and one solid hit) and it could be from that. It seems a little too clean for a pipe job, though.
