One of my favorite themes, and a really nice coin to boot. Some green on the reverse, but it may well clean up further. Really liking this one.

That's a splendid example. I have one of these too, but not as nice as yours.
I do like the 18th/19th century trade tokens, so much local history, so many fascinating designs. As you've been kind enough to share this I'll get out the tray of them I have and post a few of the nicer ones at the weekend.

R C Bell in "Copper Commercial Coins 1811 -1819" ( published 1964 ) states that this token was issued in Sheffield. The portrait is of Horatio Nelson, and Bell comments on how recent this portrait of him is compared to later portraits, which show him as an "effeminate dandy".

Note the error spelling of "HALPPENNY".

Bell suggests this token was issued by the same person as a similar token which has the same obverse of Nelson, but a different reverse showing text "1811 / PAYABLE / AT No 18 / NORFOLK-ROW / SHEFFIELD".

Your token is listed as common.

The Token Book ( Galatea 2010 ) lists your token as non-local, VF £25, EF £60.
