July's release would normally be in the first week of the month.

I guess it makes " RCM" sense to have a big Canada150 release after July 1st. I mean, Christmas trees sell best on December 28th. Right?

RCM MC members get advance last week of June.

The RCM already said the 150th anniversary program will run year round so a couple days difference will make no difference. Remember the program started last year and there have been monthly 150th anniversary coin releases. There are already plenty of 150th coins for the public to choose from. The circulation coins are out already.

There is no bigger Canada150 day than Canada Day. Ottawa is preparing to be virtually shut down with traffic that weekend. Some hotel rooms are going for up to $900 a night with minimum 4 night stays. There will be tens of thousands of people on the streets near the Mint.

If the RCM misses Canada Day even by a few days, they are completely nuts.

Only about half of the Canada150 coins have been issued already. Why would they wait to make a splash after the single most important date of the year?! Thay can't be that stupid...can they?

Maybe RCM wants to get rid of all the stuff they already have for the 150th anniversary. There are quite a number of items to choose from. Just maybe, they have really good stuff coming up that they believe will be sure sell outs and no need to have on hand at the Ottawa Mint during the event.

Just thinking

Looking at both sides of the coin.

If we follow this line of thinking, not only half of the coins would have been issued, but 100% of the Canada 150th anniversary coins would be issued by July 1.

The fact is the 150th anniversary of Canada is to be celebrated throughout the year.

From Tourism Vancouver;

Quote:
Throughout 2017, communities across the country will be celebrating the 150th anniversary of Canada's Confederation. From arts and culture festivals, to fireworks, exhibitions and sporting events, the country will come together to toast the nation's sesquicentennial birthday, and show our national spirit and pride! Canadians are being encouraged to explore their own country, but the "Canada 150" celebrations are a great time for all travelers to discover this country. Lonely Planet named Canada its number one country to visit in 2017, in no small part thanks to our year-long party!

Vancouver is holding events in the months of July and September. I am sure other cities will be holding Canada 150th anniversaries throughout the summer months.

Do the general public really care if there is no big coin on release July 1? Maybe to the coin collector but I doubt the general public would care since there are plenty of Canada 150th coins to choose from. The general public is not going to rush out to buy $1000 coins or expensive sets or 5 oz coins regardless of when the coins are issued.

You've planted a picture in my mind of coin collectors across the country at local celebrations, precisely on the stroke of midnight enthusiastically waving around their treasured 150 coinage in the air, cheering on Canada's birthday as the spectacular fireworks burst.

Others participants nearby try not to stare.

That's a silly conclusion. I never said they should issue 100% of the coins by July 1st. I'm simply saying, if the RCM is going to do the "big releases" of 150th coins in July, as you've opined, they are missing the opportunity.

No matter where you are in Canada, July 1st is THE most Canadian day in the 150th year celebrations and I expect the Mint to capitalise on it by issuing some new coins on or before that date (as even Bromberg will do on TSC). If they wait a week, so be it, but that is stupidity on their part.

June will be the 6th of presumably 11th monthly issues this year yet slightly less than half of the Canada150 coins have come out and none in the June issue? That makes zero sense especially when August is traditionally a small release month and by October/November the 2018 coins will start. That's why I suggest the possiblity that they would do a mid or late month release in June. Again, if they don't, so be it.

Believe me, I understand Canada150 is a year long event. It's being beaten to death in every regard in this city for more than a year aleady.

Some nice info regarding new release on the other forum.

With the "proper mintage" some coins could go very good...

And as per description - no (or not much) Canada 150 items

You guys are complaining about too many coins being minted by the Mint, and now you are saying they need to release more Canada 150 than they already have.

Just release a $150 coin with a ultra high relief flag in the wind and it is done.

On RCMs website I notice 17 different 150 offerings still for sale.
Only 4 are sold out.
I kilo Cdn coin collection,
150 pure silver proof set
150 silver dollar
10oz diamond jubilee
http://www.mint.ca/store/buy/canada...startValue=1

Considering its already May and people are out and about in the summer, I wouldn't expect a peak buying season over the next couple of months. After July? Can't see that either. I might be wrong but considering RCM first released 150 coins in the last quarter of 2016, peak sales have already passed but haven't met their optimistic expectations.

Has RCM already scraped many of the intended 48 releases? Wouldn't surprise me, as we know they've done so with other series in the past.

If you count single coins and subscriptions, the RCM has already released more than half of its intended 48 products; it is at more than 75% if it considers each of the coins in the Celebrating Canada thirteen-coin set to be an individual product. (I wouldn't, but who knows what the marketers count!)

I wonder how it counts the circulation commemorative coins?

I would be surprised if the RCM doesn't follow through on the rest of what it has planned. Any one of the to-be-released coins could prove to be very popular and generate strong revenue/profit for the RCM. Would it pass up such a chance?

Just FYI, a few additional coins that are also on the "Sold Out" list but that do not appear on the Mint's "Canada 150" sales page (even if "Show Sold Out Coins" box is ticked):

- the Canadian Maples Leaves ½ ounce $10 silver coin; it features "150 Years" as part of the reverse design and its sales page is tagged with the "150" logo

- the first 10-ounce Confederation Medal coin (Juventas et Patrius Vigor)

- the Confederation Medal three-coin subscription

Also, the Forgotten Designs Tribute Set is currently "Awaiting Stock" and will likely be moved to "Sold Out" soon.

The Big Coins series of 1967 reissues was billed as a celebration of Canada's 150th anniversary. I wonder if they are considered part of the 48 releases?

I agree that the bulk of the 150th anniversary coins have been already been released. The Confederation Medal and the Forgotten Design series count toward the 150th release schedule. In fact, anything with the 150th logo on the box should be considered as Canada 150th Anniversary coins. Maybe next month's Loonie set be one too.

So I don't why some people are expecting something big for June/July releases. The only thing big about future releases will be the cost. I expect some big ticket items like gold coins, 5 oz coins, Kilo coins, and expensive boxed sets.

There is one coin "Wolf", already has been listed on ebay with the picture. I'll join to two members and say "Wow, the coin is nice and the artwork is great. Just they could use the space more properly".
Anyway, first in the series, only 4000 mintage, 2oz silver coin, with popular cliche design, might appeal to many and sell well.
But....no coin for me. I dont want it going to the shelf / box...but you, my friends consider it for loading.

Thanks Silveroid. Just looked at it. As you say, very nice looking coin. I see it uses zentangle art for the design of the wolf head.

I love the design on this coin. The layout is perfect, in my opinion.

I've cut back on RCM purchases too, Silveroid, but definitely will get this one.
