I haven't been able to get good enough pics with my phone until today (testing one of those clip-on macro lenses). I was searching through quarters and a glint on the reverse caught my eye.
Looking through a loupe, I can see what appears to be a ghosted A northeast of the last A in LOUISIANA. At this point, I can't tell if it's raised or incuse. None of the other letters or numbers on the reverse show signs of this. Any thoughts?

Well you have MD common to this incuse design type .. but it also looks like the mark to the east of the A seems to be a reeded coin edge contact mark ..
I thought possible MD but, usually when I see MD it affects multiple letters in the area. Considering how small this part of the design is, why am I seeing no evidence of the same thing on the other letters?
Also, if MD, it seems the die raised post-strike, then shifted and dropped again. It's not a shelf on the original A but a completely separate weak A slightly to the northeast with a regular field thickness in between.
That's why I'm confused about this one.

DD usually affects more than one letter MD can affect just one. It does look a little odd, maybe it's something else. Maybe as, Mysexauer said it's damage to the east.
