This 1970, still in mint wrapper has a high riding "7" and other SD characteristics. Is this even possible?

I should probably go take my nap now, shouldn't I?

Part of my confusion is from the comparison with the other 1970 in this mint set, it does look small.

I am going to go grab some sleep. I'll check on it later. Let me know your thoughts. If you need a closer look, try clicking on the photo and it should get a little bigger.

Isn't the SD only a thing on the S mint coins?

I believe you're correct BigSilver.

And those do look like Large Dates to me.

Aye, there's the rub. This is the blue part of a 1970 mint set which typically contains the P cent and the S cent. So did these two coins both come out of Philly or did one get struck in SF without a mint mark?

I don't know how those packaging machines work, so is there a hopper for P cents and another for S cents and some got mixed up? Was there a die in SF that lacked a mint mark and those coins got packaged in the normal way?

I see what you're saying, Biederrcoins. I know of no SF die without the mint. I think they're probably both Phillys. One possible way to prove it is look closely, there's a good chance they're both from the same obverse or reverse die.

Not really worth pursuing I suppose. It just caught my attention and gave me a case of the "what ifs.."

probably not worth it. I guess it is technically a "mint error", but I wouldn't think it'd have much interest.
