Due to me having to put most of my existing collection into long term storage (safe and trusted) I am looking at ideas that are not already covered by my various 7070's and other type sets.

I am also not looking to spend more than 100ish bucks per coin. That puts the vast majority of years within my price range in at least VF.

I am also not stuck on any specific denomination; 1/2 cent on up is perfectly fine. I just want one coin for each year the US made coins.

For the few years that are either too expensive or none were made I am thinking maybe getting an appropriatly dated foreign coins (Spanish, French, British etc...) that were commonly used in the early US.

I would love to hear any ideas, tips and what not you guys may have!

Have a great day!

Sounds like a fun set to put together, Half. Please be sure to share photos as you add to the set. I look forward to the updates to this thread.

I finished that same set last year, but it isn't plausible to accomplish it in a VF grade range at the $100 price range.

Regardless of the denomination, pre 1820's coins would be tough to find in that price/grade, and some dates, like the 1815, are going be way higher for way worse grades.

To meet your goals I might suggest beginning just prior to the civil war, say 1860, and move on from there. Once that set is complete you'll know if you want to continue to pursue earlier dates.

Thanks Mike. There is this thing called Spring that lasts a very short time here in Minnesota. My gardening takes me out of the house and away from ANY machine so I can play in the dirt. Today it's raining.

I can see 1793, 1815, and 1799 being the hardest.

Finally getting started with this set. lol Quite far to go.

What country/denominations would you consider to be representative for those used in the USA during the late 1700's?

Here are the first two additions to this project.

Nothing very interesting; just the 1952 dime I got in change and a 1955 Wheatie I got in a lot of coins I recently won on the bay.
