Noticed this one looked a bit odd compared to all the other old pennies I have. Weight is close - 5.7 grams. Don't know if this is some sort of oddball corrosion or something "special". Can't seem to find any documentation that different planchets were a thing in 1904. Looking the community for some info. Thanks in advance as always.

Sorry for the quick pics - I'm slammed with other stuff now but also want some ideas on this. Coin in question is on the right - the other is a comparison of what most of the others I have look like

Tolerance alone can account for a less than 1% overage in weight. The color can be a result of any number of sceince experiments.
A quarter would be slightly heavier and smaller in diameter. I am not saying it couldn't be, but I don't see much to go on.

They are all struck on something other than copper, namely bronze.
The colour isn't that unusual.
Do a search of large cent lots on ebay, you'll see many like yours.

Hmm. Didn'the realize 4% tin and 1% zinc added to 95% copper was enough to call it bronze. . . Learning something new each day. I've come across hundreds of these pennies over the years and never seen one this colour.

Previously buried or left outside in a damp environment. Perhaps a found penny long ago, or a metal detecting find.

The Jamaica half penny of that time is 5.6 grams cupro nickel both struck at The Royal Mint at that time if memory serves.

But at that time, quality control was tight, each coin was looked at ping tested and handled before leaving

It looks like it was buried, probably in alkaline soil.
