Typically I find it easy to tell the difference between proofs and business strikes, but with the Morgan's I'm stumped. Is there any details that are visual to the eye to look out for. Such wide rim... Etc. If so do anyone have side by side comparisons they could show. Thank you
Proof Morgan dollars are rare creatures, most years had a mintage of less than 1,000 compared to millions of business strikes. Do not confuse collector-only proof issues with the relatively common "proof-like"(PL) or "deep mirror proof-like"(DMPL) business strike Morgans. Most Morgan proofs are brilliant but some do have a cameo apperance and they have the typical proof attributes of a hammered strike and sharped squared rims. VAMworld has die marker listings for all proof issues.
