I would sooner start this in the Canadian forum but Canadian exonumia does technically belong here. If one of the moderators decides to move it there to get better traffic that would be great. If they decided to keep it here I 100% understand. I don't want to clutter up the Canadian coin/currency forum.

I have been picking up Canadian political buttons left right and center. Mostly NB/NS and party leaders. You can usually date them by looking up the candidate online. However I would like to figure out how the different political parties' logos evolved over time.

I have two P.C. buttons in front of me from a local pick up. The first one has a blue "p" red maple leaf and blue "c" making a flag. The other has a little blue and red flap trailing off the letters "pc". A distinct design change.

I believe now the PC party uses a maple leaf in a blue uppercase C.

Anyways looking up the 3 main parties/ Quebec Block online does not show me their old logos. Nor can I find a reference on the internet. Does anyone have a guide/list of former political party logos?

Thank you in advance.

Good luck in your hunt, it almost seems that parties change their logos with each election. The maple leaf and upper case C logo belongs to the Conservative Party of Canada.Federally the PC party was dissolved in about 2002-2003 when they merged with the Alliance party to become the Conservative Party of Canada, there were some dissenters like Joe Clark who tried to resist the merger but they soon resigned to their fate. The maple leaf and upper case C logo belongs to the Conservative Party of Canada.
The PC party logo on the badge in the lower left of you photo belongs to the PC party of Nova Scotia. In provincial politics the PC party survived the dissolution and turmoil of the turn of the century.

PS I believe the Bloc logo, unlike others, is unchanged since their inception in the early 90's.

DBM, I am up for the challenge.

Yes, from what I understand the whole Tory conservative/social credit idea merged as one. I may be mistaken but don't they call Deifenbaker the last Tory?

So their is a federal party logo and than provincial logos as well. I have some PC for NB or if I could vote I would vote NB Liberal buttons with no candidates on them. I call these generic party buttons. What I will have to do is find a button with the same logo and a candidate. From there I can date the button via the candidate and note the logo used. That becomes tricky though when you have people like Richard Hatfield who spent over a decade in office.

As an aside the latest bag of buttons I bought all seem to be from Nova Scotia. So in this bag I have Mayor or City council buttons with Surnames only. I can assume they are also from Nova Scotia and start googling their names with key words like NS, Nova Scotia, HRM, Sydney etc.

I will have fun with this. Thank you for your input. I may try to put together a little article or collection focus and look at putting it up here. I kind of like the idea of doing a set of Liberal buttons from New Brunswick's McKeena sweep.
