Forgive my pathetic internet skills, but go to this coin on ebay 1916 Standing Liberty quarter 25C Coin - PCGS AG3 - Rare Date - Rainbow Tone! A coin I'm searching for, but this IMHO is a 17 in a cracked out slab. Or PCGS really blew it. Or most likely, I'm wrong. Let me know, thanks!

That does look like a 1917 type 1, not a 1916.

Oh yeah, that's a 1917 for sure. The shield beads are a dead giveaway.

I definitely learned something about these from this topic. It really does look like a 1917 Type I. Thanks for pointing out the beads on the shield, nicelytoned. So, either PCGS dropped the ball or someone else is not being honest... My vote's for the latter.

I had to refresh my memory about 1916 vs 1917 type-1. As mentioned, the shield beads are dead give way. It's 1917 for sure. Quote: So, either PCGS dropped the ball or someone else is not being honest...
My vote's for the latter. I second the latter scenario.

My vote's for the latter. I second the latter scenario. Seems like a legit seller though...

It appears the seller ended the listing "due to an error". Maybe someone pointed this issue out to them.

This is an established dealer with a good reputation. And the coin is slabbed. Its an odd sort of error to be made by PCGS as its pretty clear that the whole point of slabbing an AG-03 coin with no date is to get it into a 1916 holder, so for the grader to not look up the diagnostics correctly is pretty bad.

I have purchased from this seller before, and who would think of this in a slabbed SLQ. The seller might have gotten scammed also.

I looked up the number, 5704.03/29980438, 29980438, on the PCGS website, and it doesn't exist. Perhaps, someone caught that and clued the seller in?

Exo, yeah it may be a fake slab. This makes more sense than PCGS missing the only reason someone would send this in to be certified.

Yes, now the PCGS # does come up. Either I entered the number incorrectly, or the website had an earlier issue. I entered the numbers both ways, just to be sure. I've done this many times before and not had an issue.
Too bad, there's no pic of the coin. It's beginning to look like PCGS goofed, again. They may "bite the bullet" on this one.
