I bought 29 IKR dollars from a random bank today while searching for half dollar rolls. As I was looking through them
I found a 1976 bold letter reverse. As well as some thin letter reverse. Can't recall what one is more collectible. I am keeping them all but want to put aside the better coins. Also hit son 74 D mint. How do I know if they are possible silver planchets.

To the CCF!

Neither of the types of 1976 Ikes are particularly rare. I believe the 1976 Type 2 has the highest mintage numbers of all Ikes.

You can find out more about these here

I heard years a ago the Type 1 was the 1975 design. The Type 2 is the 1976 design. I don't recall where I read that though. (There were more demand for the 1976 because of the Bi-Centenial year coins.

It is because the 1975 proof and mint sets have the variety 1 reverse, while the 1976 sets have variety 2.

There are supposedly some exceptions that have been found, but I believe they would be considered packaging errors as they were not intended.
