I am not even certain what country this is from as the characters are not immediately identifiable. It wasn't with any paperwork or info on it, and the other coins it were with were from 19th century Europe which doesn't help. Any information would be greatly appreciated! 25mm long, 17mm tall 18.8g

It's called a Sycee.
Might be "Double Happiness" character, a wedding gift, may or may not be legitimate silver. Could be a souvenir shop item. I don't think it's among the legitimate currency used for Chinese larger scale money transactions.

Thanks so much! After looking at examples sold in the past, most are at least 36g that I saw, mine being obviously much lighter (but at the same time smaller dimensions). Is it possible it is still genuine and is there a way to determine this? Thanks again!

First step is to find out if it is silver or not.
Numerous ways to help with that.
Not sure what methods may be available to you.

I've have handled some of these sycee in the past but many seemed to have many air bubble holes on the bottom which yours is lacking.
Nowdays most of these are given out at weddings as a "souvenir". I agree with Albert that this does have a double happiness character and on a lucky day these may be made of silver but that would be rare.

* Forgot to add that most of these sycee are small, on the contrary replicas of these tend to be bigger.
