I'm considering starting a collection of FBL Franklin halves. Aside from the 53-s (and maybe 52-s), it seems reasonable. I could settle for no FBL on those if I had to. MS 64 seems to be a good grade to shoot for since they are affordable. I've started to look on ebay and it appears Franklins often suffer from milk spots, is that true? Anything else to look out for in this series?

LE20, I have 1951-S and 1953-S Franklins. They are raw but I like the lines on them. The lines on the 1951-S are very good. Full but not sharp as to depth. A bag mark between the upper and lower lines.

I enjoy collecting Franklins over the years. Once milk spot is present in silver coins, it can not be removed, as far as I know.

Just stay away from milk spotted coins. And make sure you don't store these high grade coins(mint & proof) where high temperature is present, like an attic in Southern States. Some of the coins have developed spots that was not present when I bought the coins about 20 years ago. (I had some coins in attic for few years due shortage in storage). Learned this from jbuck

I can't even afford a nice non-FBL Franklin set but, best of luck!

Yeah, attic storage (or any non-climate controlled environment) is not advised. In my area, attic temps will be in the 130-150°F range during summer.

A fbl Franklin set is doable. Most of my set is 63/64 fbl, with exceptions of 52s, 53s (also 49S) is a sleeper date in fbl. The rest are relatively easy with a little bit of searching.
