Hi all,

I originally marked this as an S. But I was just reorganizing my binder and, having just looked at a 1951-S, noticed that this one looks a little odd. The top of the S is closed, there's a line in the lower loop of the S (not very distinguishable in the pictures), and there's a little protrusion at the bottom of the mint mark. A look in the Red Book told me that S over D is a variety for that year. Can you take a look and let me know what you think?

Thanks!
Michelle

P.S. My apologies for the crappy photographs... I took them through a magnifying glass. I've ordered a camera so future pictures will hopefully be more clear. :)

Looks like damage to me. Let's wait for a pro.

to CCF. It looks pretty worn and I agree it's damaged. Coop is our resident expert, but he usually comments on threads that are incorrectly answered or in doubt or really nice coins. If you don't hear from him, I think you can pretty much consider this one damaged.
These pics aren't bad for through a glass. I bet you get some awesome ones with your new camera.

It doesn't look like the one on PCGS that is a large image:

Click on to examine the shape of the mint mark. Click on that area of the coin.

Your coin looks nothing like this. So it maybe just coin contact on the mint mark.

Agreed, mine doesn't look like that one at all. I wasn't aware of that PCGS site but I just Googled for it and found it. That'll be super helpful in the future.

Thanks all, I appreciate your responses & input! :)
