In 2005, the 100th anniversary of Saskatchewan joining the Canadian Confederation was commemorated with a silver $5.00 collector coin along with a 25-cent circulating counterpart (shown here in a First Day of Mintage card); both were struck by the Royal Canadian Mint ( RCM). For more about these Saskatchewan commemorative coins, see: - 2005 Saskatchewan Centennial of Joining Confederation.

Canada's 1988 Saint-Maurice Ironworks silver dollar was struck to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Canada's first heavy industry, the Forges du Saint-Maurice (Saint-Maurice Ironworks). The company - Compagnie des Forges de Saint-Maurice - was formed in 1730 with four partners; the lead partner died in 1733. The year being commemorated, 1738, was the first year of the full-scale working forge at Saint-Maurice. The design of two 18th century ironworkers hard at their task is the work of Robert-Ralph Carmichael. For more on this silver dollar, check out: - 1988 Saint-Maurice IronworksFor other commemorative coin and medal posts, check out: Read More: Commems Collection.

In 1999, Canada issued a commemorative silver dollar to mark the 225th anniversary of the 1774 voyages of Juan Perez and his initial sighting of Haida Gwaii (original First Nations name for the island group he came upon). The islands would be renamed as the Queen Charlotte Islands in 1787 and maintained that name until 2010. In 2010, the official name for the archipelago reverted back to Haida Gwaii to respect the people of the Haida Nation for whom the islands are, and have been, home. David Craig designed the coin's commemorative reverse - a scene depicting the Haida People approaching Perez' ship - the Santiago - in canoes, with a friendly greeting. You can learn more about the coin and Juan Perez here: - 1999 Juan Perez Coin and Pin Set
