In 1985, Canada celebrated the centennial of the establishment of its first National Park - Banff in Alberta - in 1885. The Park was created via the protection of roughly 26 square kilometers (~10 square miles). Today, Banff Park covers over 6,600 square kilometers (~2,565 square miles). The Royal Canadian Mint joined the national celebration by releasing a commemorative silver dollar. The design on the coin's commemorative reverse depicts a moose wading in the shallow waters of a lake. A group of trees lining the lake's opposite shore is seen in the background along with towering mountains; close inspection reveals reflections of the trees in the lake's waters. The central and tallest mountain in the depiction appears to be Sulphur Mountain (a part of the Rocky Mountain range). The scene was designed by Montreal artist Karel Rohlicek. @hokiefan_82: Thanks for sharing!
That 2001 coin has a VERY interesting reverse design - especially considering its theme. I'm guessing it's based on a child's drawing?

It is more accurate to call them a thematic series than true commemorative issues, but it is one of those things people hesitate to reconsider.
