I decided to pull out the album I had made from my grandfathers collection, and ran across this IHC. I was trying to decide if it is a Fancy 5 or not. I am not sure due to the poor condition of the coin, what do you guys think?

Fancy five. Look at the inner loop of the fives.

I wonder. The only pic that really shows the upsweep on the flag's end is the next to last, and that could be a flash effect off corrosion in the area. This upsweep seems too long and thin compared to that on the regular Fancy 5.

No big deal either way.

Wow, the side by side really gives it away then. Was unsure at first because just as your seeing, if you look at different angle, that top swoop looked different. Thank you, fancy five it is!

I was revisiting this coin and post and determined it was a candidate for a Spiked Head. Ended up not quite making Spiked Head but did make the CU listing for Cuds as, CU-1c-1865-05. I am not disappointed!

Also looking back over the side by side 52Raymo posted, the style of the 6 is very different as well, combined with both numbers of a different style I should not have a problem with this variety again.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread rather than start a new one.

Here's an 1865 I dug up, it's so rough it should be thrown away.

Before I do that, what do you all think about the variety?

Fancy 5 or plain 5? Or too far gone to determine? I think it's a fancy.

Looks like a Plain 5 to me.
