Advertise these as spade guinea gaming tokens, whist markers, counters, jetons, spielmarke, or about any other way, and you're lucky to sell them at $2 each. On a good day. Maybe.

But advertise them as:

"1768 KEY COLONIAL BRASS COPPER RARE US Revolutionary WAR Era COIN VERY RARE"

none of which are even remotely true except the "brass" part;

and suddenly you can sell them for $86 each...

Unfortunately, unethical isn't unlawful, and there's nothing on the books yet preventing uninformed newbie collectors from making ridiculously stupid purchases.

Genuine restrikes! I am starting to have less feelings for the buyers and have nothing good for the sellers. If I had the chance I'd the seller, but I'd get awful tired them all.
It is 2017. The art of scamming on the internet should be almost common knowledge.
The sad part is that these dumb people who haven't done their homework, will be lost to the hobby when they learn they got burnt. It might be years from now when they walk into a coin shop and ask how much the dealer will give them for the bag of stuff they paid hundreds of dollars for and get told the truth.
Then they'll blame the dealer and the hobby itself for being full of rip-off con artists.
Education is the key to collector success!. Where did I see that before? Someplace .... I dunno?

However, some buyers will realize the mistake and turn that into a more active fervor for collecting while most will not.

The sellers will not go away so all we can do is what is already being done: call them out.
