This is a true story. This past Christmas my wife was in a store and over heard an old lady say she wished she had money to buy her grandkids fire crackers for the New Year's Day to pop. My wife said she would give her $50. My wife didn't know this lady and the lady was from another town. The lady asked for my wife's address and she said she had a coin she would mail her. A couple months later, this was the coin the lady mailed to my wife. I freaked out when I saw the coin.

Good deeds and kindness toward fellow humans is far too lacking and it can go a long way. This is proof! You never know...

Nice story.

Maybe I'm a little off, but I would send the woman another 50-100 back. That is just way to generous IMO. I never have a problem doubling my money, but 6 fold is insane. That's just me. Nice though.

I would probably send it back...if she had to borrow from your wife to begin with, she has zero business sending you her gold coin...

If the woman is poor and had no idea how much the gold coin was worth (which seems likely) then I'd send it back. She likely saw the $10 denomination on it and decided to re-pay some of your expense not realizing it was a $350 coin.

Just my 2 cents.

EDIT: I just saw it was a 1/4 oz piece and changed the amounts above.
